An Outdoor Wedding at the Bronx Botanical Gardens

The summer of 2009 has been one of the rainiest summers to date, and this has been a concern at every outdoor wedding we've been involved with. One of our regular corporate clients was getting married and Big Apple helped her plan a beautiful outdoor wedding ceremony at the Bronx Botanical Gardens complete with a back up wedding Chuppah in case of rain!

Wedding Chuppa at the Bronx Botanical Garden

Stephanie's ceremony would require a traditional Chuppah. The Bronx Botanical Garden, where the outdoor wedding ceremony was planned, was prepared for this sort of thing, and already had a bare Chuppah structure.  Stephanie wanted to have the ceremony outside at the Botanical Garden and use the Chuppah structure that was already installed. It became our duty to create floral pieces that could easily be attached to the structure and look as natural and feminine as possible. We had started planning for Stephanie's outdoor wedding when we first got the news in the beginning of 2009.   Everyone at Big Apple was very excited and the wedding planning process began immediately.  Stephanie stopped by to exchange wedding ideas with Abu and they got the ball rolling.

Soft Pinks Creams and Whites for the Outdoor Wedding Décor

Stephanie knew that she wanted her flowers to be really soft and feminine.  She wanted to use soft pinks creams and whites.  Her bridesmaids would be wearing chocolate brown dresses, so she also wanted to incorporate that color into her flowers. Abu suggested that she use a mix of vendella, sahara, and panama roses, hydrangea, ranunculus, and dendrobium orchids.  They also decided to use whimsical fiddleheads throughout the pieces to compliment the chocolate brown dresses and fit in with the Bronx Botanical Garden theme. Stephanie was going to have 180 people at her wedding and wanted a mixture of both high and low centerpieces for the wedding reception.  These pieces would include the same signature flowers from the ceremony, the soft pink and cream roses, white dendrobium orchids, and fluffy white hydrangea.  Tall white calla lilies were also added to the tall pieces to make them more striking, as the  wedding card table centerpiece clearly demonstrates! new-york-botanical-wedding-gardenbronx-ny-botanical-garden-weddingstephanie-card-table-piece

Have a Back Up Idea for an Outdoor Wedding!

Before we knew it, the big day was just right around the corner. The Bronx Botanical Garden was in full summer bloom!
  • Because of all of the detailed planning for the outdoor wedding, we were ready for anything, including rain.
  • Because of the unpredictable weather, Abu and the team brought along a back up Chuppah structure.
  • Because the weather could very well be bad like a million other days this summer, even Stephanie was willing to forgo the outdoor wedding idea and prepared to set up the Chuppah in an indoor space.

The Second Wedding Chuppah was Not Needed!

On the Sunday of the wedding, the sky was covered with gray clouds and things did not look good as far as weather was concerned.  The Bronx Botanical Garden was truly beautiful and  we really didn't want to miss the outdoor setting. We decided to do go about the day according to the original idea of an outdoor wedding ceremony at the Bronx Botanical Garden with a positive attitude in hopes that the weather would clear up in time for the evening wedding, and that's just what it did! About an hour before the ceremony was to begin, the rain had ceased and the sun was out.  Abu and the team quickly set up the outdoor wedding Chuppah and ceremony area, and the wedding went off without a hitch. Whew! Stephanie came back to catch up the next week before leaving for her honeymoon in Hawaii.  She was thrilled with the flowers and the two wedding Chuppahs.  We are so happy that our planning and ideas helped Stephanie have the time of her life at the outdoor wedding of her dreams at Bronx Botanical Garden.
